6 Stops to Make on the Oregon Coast
Last year we traveled to Ireland, and we thought we had seen some of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world. And then we found the coast of Oregon. It turns out we have incredible beaches right in our backyard.
You can find the most stunning locations along the 12 miles of the Samuel H. Boardman state scenic corridor.
The Samuel H. Boardman state scenic corridor is named for the first Oregon state park superintendent. He served from 1929 to 1950. Samuel proposed building an extensive national park along the curry county coastline. The national park never happened, but this state park containing a good chunk of his proposal was named as a tribute to him.
There are 18 miles of trails along the corridor and lots to see from picturesque viewpoints. Here are some of the spots you don't want to miss:
Lone Ranch beach
We stayed at this magnificent beach for a while, and there was hardly anyone there. So, you’ll have almost the entire beach to yourself if you visit.
Cape Ferello Viewpoint
There’s a mile-long hike that leads to a secluded beach. This cape is also an excellent spot for whale watching in the fall and spring. You don’t even need to take a boat.
House Rock Viewpoint
Whaleshead Viewpoint
Natural Bridge Viewpoint
This breath-taking view gives off a combination of coastal and country ambiances. You can see just enough of the ocean from the viewpoint, but it’s still surrounded by trees. The thing is, you won’t see these viewpoints unless you pull off the road because they're behind a beautiful forest.
Arch Rock Viewpoint
Arch Rock is just spectacular! And we didn't even know it existed until yesterday. This is the kind of spot where you want to stop and take everything in. It’s one of those places where you allow yourself to be swept away by the serenity.
I love the man who decided that this coast needed to be salvaged because I have never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life. This is the first in our series exploring the Oregon coast, so don't miss out on the rest of our adventures and some of this incredible beauty.
